Nuclear war cannot happen because even Putin is not stupid enough to initiate a first strike. The only winning move in nuclear war is to not launch. Putin the bully is full of threats but knows we have nukes too and mutually assured destruction would be the result. He's a thug, but he's not a suicidal thug. Arm Ukraine to the teeth. Force Putin to withdraw from the stolen territories and end his war against Ukraine. Stop supporting the illegal invasion.
Peace would occur today if Putin would withdraw and stop murdering Ukrainians.

I may be wrong here but didn't the Ukraine give Russia nuclear missiles back on the promise that Russia would not invade the Ukraine? You're absolutely right, and Russia signed a treaty guaranteeing Ukraine's security in exchange for them doing so. The Budapest Memorandum was signed in 1994.
Ukraine gave up it's nuclear weapons.
Russia guaranteed Ukraine's security.
Ten years later Putin had Yuschenko poisoned.
Russia has been in violation of the Budapest Memorandum for twenty years.

Problem with that theory is there are levels of potential nuclear war so Mutually Assured Destruction isn't an inevitable outcome of using them. |

The only winning move is not to launch a first strike against a NATO nation.

Difficult to say, but so far Putin has been too afraid to launch an attack on NATO.
And NATO are forbidden from using the threat or use of force in any way inconsistent with the United Nations Charter.
Unless attacked NATO will not attack Russia, only aid the victims of Putin.
