That is good. What's stopping it happening. What's stopping what happening? In most states they require strong background checks and have strong gun laws. Remember in the UK you have to pass background checks and need farmland, or to be a member of a shooting club, or be in certain types of security to own a gun from what I recall. Yes you have to store the gun in the safe when not using it and can't walk around with it, but you still have a gun and could shoot somebody with it if so inclined. It's not that materially different for a determined shooter in the USA or UK in reality. The shooter actually got his gun from his father anyway, for supposed use at a shooting club he often went to, in PA. If one is so inclined they can just purchase it on the black market in the UK anyway. Someone I knew from school in London was shot dead simply for being on the wrong estate, it's not like there's no gun crime in England www.theguardian.com/uk/2007/nov/17/ukcrime.ukgunsIts much harder to get hold of a gun in the UK as you know. Sure criminals can get guns but your average citizen does not own a gun. And the states clearly does have a problem or people wouldn't be protesting and 43,000 people wouldn't have been killed by guns in 2023. So the current laws are clearly not working. So I asked if a large majority of Americans want tighter gun controls, what's stopping that happening. |

So you want people not to be able to own a gun, is that it? You think they shouldn't own a gun, or shouldn't be allowed to carry it around with them.
Maybe you aren't aware of this Zany, but even things such as wildlife are very different here. It's all well and good for you to tell people here what they should do, but have you ever encountered a wild bear up close? Have you ever encountered feral hogs up close? They don't just ignore you, there's a good risk of dying.
We have wild mountain lions, cougars, coyotes, wolves, bears, hogs, bobcats, alligators (ok you're not likely to shoot them but still..) etc etc. You realize things are just different here right? It's easy for you to sit there and criticise this place when you weren't even aware of our gun laws to start with, but I suspect things might be very different if you have to live in Alaska for example and deal with wild bears riling through your trash. Obviously you would want to scare them off with banging pans ideally, but if that fails, and if the bear is getting aggressive and someone is cornered - you do need a way to kill the bear if it is going to hurt your family, it's unfortunate but true. By the way I'm a big fan of bears, so that would be rather sad, but that's how it goes sometimes
That's just one way in which things are different here. I'm sorry if people think that's callous and it's unacceptable to own guns when around dangerous wildlife for but one example

And I already told you, because the NRA and groups like that are blocking it.
But we need guns more than in other countries, because we have dangerous wildlife and things are just different here. If people can't understand that, I'm not sure what else to suggest

They actually declared bankruptcy in 2021 but it was denied by a judge |

There are even wild coyotes around some highways here near suburban Atlanta, all well and good to spam trash about aliens beaming up unless you've actually been attacked by these things
