It will be reframed as England propping up Scotland, thanks to the magic rejiggers in Starmer's constituency offices
Everything = England supporting the entire world
Americans always say the same things, some have even resorted to saying "Defund the UK" because they think America funds Britain. I find it hilarious to be honest.

So, a DC cable being connected up to Drax an English biomass power station is somehow Scotland keeping the lights on in England is it? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drax_Power_StationDistributing electricity from England over a vast distance by DC rather than AC, is fucking stupid. Not only is it not green (Drax burns trees) there is distance loss and there is also a question of heat.

Not only is it not green (Drax burns trees) there is distance loss and there is also a question of heat. It runs at 525kV so distance loss isn't such an issue. IIRC it's DC to avoid synchonisation issues and power conversion is much more efficient nowadays. Why would anyone complain about Scotland making money selling its power.

The largest amount of renewable electricity in the UK comes from England. Hornsea offshore wind farm is the largest in the world so far. Drax is the largest biomass power station in the world. It is England keeping the lights on in this case.
The thread is just more anti English anti British nonsense.

You can see why starmer said absolutely no way can scotland have the chance to vote for independence.

DC transmission is less reliable than AC, there's risks of arcing in circuit breakers, it's more expensive than AC and it's got to be converted back into AC anyway which means losses. The added complexity means more risks of faults and there have already been fires in undersea HVDC cables.

I figure the National Grid know the detail better than you or I. And surely ELF some obsess about is worse with AC (not that I'm convinced ELF is any real issue).
AC v DC was the Tesla v Edison battle of the late 19th century. Tesla (AC) certainly was right for those times.

There's already been fires in HV DC transmission equipment and undersea cables, I just don't trust that technology.

I seriously doubt it unless it was dirt cheap. We are quite capable of building wind farms all the way down the North sea.

Problem with windfarms is they use parts which wear out and cannot be recycled. They're not as "green" as they first appear. All those turbine blades went to landfill. There was also a huge carbon dioxide cost in making them.

There was also a huge carbon dioxide cost in making them. I bet that pic is in the US. They can be recycled and are often made from recycled materials in the first place. One of the uses is making cement out of them. Even ones buried in landfill can be dug up, recycled and turned into new blades. www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-68225891
