Labour facing moment of truth over tax pledges, economists warn Experts say 5.5% pay increase for public sector not ‘consistent’ with spending plans that rule out tax rises Labour is fast approaching a moment of truth over its election pledges on tax and spending, experts have warned, after Rachel Reeves indicated the government could agree above-inflation pay rises for public sector staff. The chancellor promised a full statement on pay board recommendations that teachers and NHS workers should receive 5.5% pay awards, ahead of an autumn budget that is set to be one of the most difficult economic balancing acts in years. While Reeves argued that denying such pay rises would bring its own costs, notably in likely strike action and a hit to staff recruitment and retention, economists warned that agreeing them would cost billions of pounds that is not currently on the balance sheet. Government spending plans, following an election campaign in which Reeves and Keir Starmer repeatedly ruled out rises to many taxes, “aren’t consistent with pay rises in the region of 5.5% to 6%,” said Ben Zaranko, senior research economist at the Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS) www.theguardian.com/society/article/2024/jul/22/labour-facing-moment-of-truth-over-tax-pledges-economists-warn#:~:text=Labour%20is%20fast%20approaching%20a,rises%20for%20public%20sector%20staff.

Almost all regressive policies by 'Blue' Labour talking of regressive policies . I see even suella braverman is calling for an end to the two child benefit cap , meanwhile labour the party of the poor and working class (dont laugh please) support it... Braverman calls for end to two-child benefit cap ‘in spirit of compassion’ Suella Braverman said the cap was pushing more children ‘into relative poverty’ and the Conservatives should be ‘proudly … the party of family’.

Yes Starmer should abandon the 2 child policy on child allowance. Abolish it altogether . . . .
. . . .and put the money into benefits for poor people with children instead.
We have too many people in the UK

Let me think. Is Braverman calling for the cap to be removed out of her often displayed capacity for genuine human compassion or is it because it makes it uncomfortable for labour...what could it possibly be? Consequently I'm skeptical that "Even Braverman" is asking for it is of any significance at all

Consequently I'm skeptical that "Even Braverman" is asking for it is of any significance at all is that a "lets ignore labours deplorable behaviour because the tories are bad and trying to make labour look poor " I hear? LOL! LOL! When the anti christ suella braverman can take the moral high ground over a benefits cap , then you know keir starmers red nasty party are in deep trouble. By christ is the honeymoon period, after the bread and circus of the euroes , now over for starmer . a rebellion over the kings speech Avon. let that sink in....labour are facing a rebellion before they have even begun governance. Incidentally I see Cooper has managed to deport 40 asylum seekers using the tories Rwanda flights, only this time to Vietnam im told ? lol!!! This is bliss watching these muppets struggle. The red tories are going to go the same way as the blue tories mark my words. Labour had a disastrous campaign that saw them lose their vote share , take less votes than Corbyn did in 2019 , on the lowest turn out for a uk election but fall into place because of the anti democratic system. Hell mend the scum.

I mean if we are going to talk about laughable Braverman taking the moral high ground takes the biscuit A whole 7 labour MPs voted against a bill, I bet Starmers knees are trembling with feart.

Starmer was never in danger of losing the vote. It was the political fall out from this that will interest everyone who isnt a labour cult member. Labours slogan of "change" falls at the first hurdle. Didn't take long.

You can afford to arm Israel , and send £3 billion per year to Ukraine , but you cant afford to scrap the tories two child benefit cap that your leader and deputy both wanted to scrap , and called obscene and inhumane? Keir Starmer @keir_Starmer · Feb 6, 2020 Replying to @keir_Starmer We must scrap the inhuman Work Capability Assessments and private provision of disability assessments (e.g. ATOS), scrap punitive sanctions, two-child limit and benefits cap.

We are to live in a civlised society and the nuclear family these days are 2 children . so if you only want people to have two children , why are you importing hordes of migrants into the uk to continue to grow the population? For a developed country to maintain , or increase its population , you need more than two children per native woman.

Starmer has rightly gone for the 'don't fuck with me' approach If it was Corbyn , starmers dont fuck me approach would be stalinism , if it was Boris Johnson or Farage , it would be authoritarian populism. ....because it was neither , its a dont fuck with me approach , or what the British brainwashing corporation has termed helpfully a show of force from starmer. I thought starmer was a boring plank of wood. I can see this shaping up to be a fun government for us political geeks.
