France is rumoured to be getting ready to put boots on the ground. Would direct conflict between between a NATO member and Russia make Putin think twice or risk escalation? Putin must know he can't win a conventional war against NATO so what would his options be?

Only way to ensure long term security for Eastern Europe is the defeat of Putin in Ukraine.
And then Russia overthrow him the way the way Romania overthrew Ceaucescu.
Shoot the murderer. End him and everyone in his mafia.

What do you make of the rumours about French boots on the ground Vinny? Russian misinformation?

Most likely propaganda. France have finally got their finger out and are offering aid. Putin wants to put the fear of god into anyone willing to aid his victims. He's a narcissistic bully.
France are also members of NATO:

Does seem unlikely that France would go it alone.

If they are trying to call his bluff, because of Ukraine running out of steam, plus manpower, it wouldn't be the first time they have tried to do so, it is how it started in the first place, he would find he had no choice but escalate the situation, which he has said so many times. Poking the bear with a long stick is obviously not that advisable.

The invasion is illegal.
It's a violation of the Budapest Memorandum, the UN Charter and Article 1 of the CSTO Treaty.
Fuck Putin, death to any invaders who do not surrender.
