Any thoughts? Anyone driven in both countries?
These are my first times driving in either country, it's lovely on country roads which are wider (mostly), but on the motorways it's very scary. (I'm comparing this to when I've been a passenger in the UK - the country roads are so much narrower, but things in general are slower which may be an upside, or downside depending on how you look at it..)
The driving test is meant to be much less strict so hopefully even I can eventually pass it. I have no idea how far I'd get with the British one.
The main fault I'm finding with my driving at the moment is simply being able to see out the car, it feels so obstructed, that sounds silly but it's true. I've tried adjusting the seat height, moving it forward, moving myself into different positions and it just feels so obstructed no matter what I do.

Driving in the USA is one of the few things I miss about it. The lanes are wider, the roads straighter and some of the drive by sights amazing. Turn right on red and undertaking on Highways take more getting used to than driving on the right.

We have the worst traffic in America here in Atlanta apparently The traffic can be rough at rush hour and as a novice it's doubly worrying. At the moment I wouldn't quite class myself as a safe driver, although hopefully getting there

I'm trying to watch driving instruction videos etc to improve my driving.
Anyone have any good ones they know of? Or any especially useful tips for novices?

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't the thread title Driving in the UK Compared to USA?

Third in total deaths (45k) behind only China (250k) and India (212k).

Ok but not the worst of all countries, like the report said
That is total figures and not per capita

Ok but not the worst of all countries, like the report said That is total figures and not per capita Deaths per 100k. UK 2.9 (2019) US 12.9 (2021) Due in a large part to the fact America has very few roundabouts.

Roundabouts are unbelievably dangerous
The most scary thing they added a while back have been those smart motorways with no hard shoulder
They have those here in the USA too, just why?

Not true, roundabouts are far safer than intersections. You have to slow down to go around a roundabout which massively reduces impact speeds. It also reduces the number of collisions. www.bristolva.org/567/Roundabout-Benefits#:~:text=Improve%20safety&text=Studies%20by%20the%20IIHS%20and,percent%20reduction%20in%20fatality%20collisions Smart motorways have been abandoned in the UK.

Have they converted all smart motorways into normal ones?
Roundabouts are very dangerous, I've seen many near crashes on roundabouts. The large ones with blind turns because they're so big are not really safe
