Yes, I wouldn't be surprised to learn that. Don't quote me, but I think that his online remarks about being prepared to die for Ukraine were made more than a year ago. That said, he's still very likely unhinged.

So the question should be what sane country allows unhinged people to own AK-47 like weaponry?

So the question should be what sane country allows unhinged people to own AK-47 like weaponry? Exactly. The irony is that a gun nut is being targeted by gun nuts. I'm not saying Trump would ever attempt or condone anything similar. But I think it's fair to call Trump a gun nut, given that his suggested solution to school shootings was to arm teachers with high powered weapons.

He lost some support from gun advocates back in 2016 when he said he would take the guns first then go to court but more recently he has blocked a bill that would have made it more difficult for people with mental illnesses to obtain guns (red flag laws). I wouldn't really describe him as a gun nut though.

If the answer is yes, I suggest you have an overly restricted personal definition of what a gun nut is.

I don't believe he did anything to facilitate the arming of teachers though. As usual, he flapped his lips but did nothing.

As usual, he flapped his lips but did nothing. He got up before the world's press and told them that school teachers should be armed with high powered weapons, that that was the solution to the school shooter problem. That may not make him a gun nut in your opinion, but it does in mine.

The security shot at the gunman three times before he fled.

The security shot at the gunman three times before he fled. There were no shots by the gunman, he bottled it. A more determined assassin would have killed the security guards.

He was a complete amateur. Looks like he was motivated by Trump's support of Putin and the MAGA opposition of aid to Ukraine.
At least when push came to shove he lost his bottle and ran away instead of opening fire.

What would the appropriate legal charge be if this had occurred in the UK? His actions seem merely preparatory to the planned offense, so no charge of attempted murder would lie (I'm assuming he was just waiting there for Trump to come along). If he didn't have an accomplice, there can be no charge of conspiracy. Firearms offenses, if the gun isn't licensed or the registration numbers were removed (as appears to have been the case in the Trump scenario)? I know I must be missing something. Probably some statutory offense. I remember almost zero criminal law.
