Did Labour HQ brief The Times that Diane Abbott has been banned from standing as Labour candidate for Hackney North and Stoke Newington?
If so, it seems that mishandling by Labour HQ has turned this into a main news item, which has swamped Labour's announcement of its plans and commitments and timescale for improving the NHS.
Labour own-goal and Tory ammunition...

Actually it's a clever finesse by Starmer. Has sidelined a known racist from disrupting the main campaign.

A ban 90% of the electorate will approve of Strange statement when vox pops, and even Labour front benchers on radio are expressing disquiet over her apparent treatment.
Now Starmer is saying she's not banned — but as he recently denied that any decision had been made on her regaining the Labour whip when the decision had been taken way back in January — can we be sure he's being told the truth...?

The story is now rolling over into tomorrow.
Is Starmer really in control, or have the eager young Spads misled him on this one…?

It's now Friday, and the whole Diane Abbott is likely to carry on over the weekend — all due to the mismanagement at Labour HQ.
I've made no secret that I think she should go, and I think she would have stood down. But because of Labour HQ insiders wanting to ingratiate themselves with the Times — and possibly through some vindictiveness — Labour's campaign is being diverted on to one party member and one constituency...

Perhaps another way to look at it is that Labour just need to be seen as a realistic alternative to find themselves in power. I think it's entirely possible that they believe the more time taken up in reporting the Diane Abbott issue is time not being spent exploring deficiencies in any policy areas they may be weak on.
BTW Diane Abbott looked really unwell. Whatever one thinks of some of her ideas, I'm not sure she is doing herself any favours pressing on.

Agreed about her health — her health has been bad for a while. Which is why she was likely to likely to have stood down if she hadn't been goaded into reacting to "mistakes" by Labour HQ...
NEWS: Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer said Diane Abbott is "free to go forward as a Labour candidate", ending days of speculation about the veteran left-winger's future Sir Keir has now given Ms Abbott his blessing to stand in Hackney North and Stoke Newington - a seat she has represented since 1987. Labour's National Executive Committee has the final say on Ms Abbott's candidacy - but a senior source told the BBC the group will not block her from standing. www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cy00npvpmzpo

Let's hope that satisfies Ms Abbott and she doesn't endanger herself.
Either way, I can't see the issue being particularly damaging for Labour.

Once Rayner supported her Starmer's hands were tied. Rayner is a better leader than him.

Labour are quite clearly a racist party.

Labour are quite clearly a racist party. It’s not clear to me that the party is racist — it possibly has racists within its ranks, but then isn’t that the case with other political parties in the UK…?
