I remember has a child my parents paying Weekley into a Club then we get vouchers and go to Department store and getting our presents or clothes for Christmas day. It was in Manchester City center called Stuwarts.
We also saved Booklots of Copop Green sheild stamps .

A paratrooper's uniform. I must have been 7 or 8. I remember sleeping with it under my pillow, I was so in love with it.

Yep had train sets too but frankly unless we were arranging accidents where they ran down legions of our mini toy soldiers they were boring.

When I was young I used to ask for Kerplunk every Christmas, don't know why I liked it so much. Always had to get another Kerplunk at Christmas, because it always seemed to be the case that since the previous year I had always - quite literally - lost my marbles, lol.
Other shit I can remember asking for and getting included Mousetrap, lol

I can't really remember which toys I got as Christmas presents and which ones I got for birthdays. I do have quite a strong memory of one Christmas in '72 when I was 7. The year we moved to Germany. We headed to a place called Winterberg in the mountains hoping to find some snow. We were booked into a hotel but unfortunately the whole town was closed for Christmas and there were no restaurants open anywhere including the hotel. Christmas dinner was bought in a grocery store which was thankfully open on Christmas Eve and eaten on the floor of our hotel room, like a picnic. We did find some snow the next day though. We drove into the mountains and found a frozen lake which seemed popular with the locals. Unfortunately I took one step and fell straight on my face giving me one of only two black eyes I've ever had (the other was a self inflicted yo-yo injury on Taunton high street some 30 years later). One of Dad's slide photos was recently digitized.
